26. It's About Time
Ninety-seven the election looms
Number ten who'll grace its rooms
The labour leader his name's Blair
Such grace such flair he surely seems fair
Even the bookies say make a wager
By the final count he'll certainly pip Major
For those of you old enough to remember it, the 1997 UK general election was a monumental turning point in British politics, as well as labour election history. A fresh young politician named Tony Blair won a unanimous victory over the conservative prime minister John Major. Tony Blair went on to emulate the legendary Margaret Thatcher, to win three consecutive UK general elections. To this day, they are the only two prime ministers to have achieved this feat.
